It is amazing how attached one can get to a pet and how tough it is to say goodbye. Yesterday Eric & Darcies dog died. Sam was a big St. Bernard, as Jan would say, one of our granddogs. I enjoyed feeding him when they were gone- you had to take time to brush his hair and talk to him. We lived next to him for 6 months after our house fire and could always hear him playing. He was so gentle with the grandkids and so good to them. Last Sunday I mentioned how attatched we had become to a bird we never knew and buried him in our sideyard. We actually had a memorial service for our bird who died in the house fire- Tica. As a boy I still remember Snooks, Tiny and our kids will remember Noel- Pets who meant so much to us that we had to say goodbye to. It was hard on my mother in law when she had to part with her two dogs so she could move to assisted living. There is nothing I can say to comfort you when you loose a pet- I understand and said a prayer for you. I will miss Sam.
"The dog of your boyhood teaches you a great deal about friendship, and love, and death: Old Skip was my brother. They had buried him under our elm tree, they said — yet this wasn't totally true. For he really lay buried in my heart." Willie Morris

"A good dog never dies. He always stays. He walks besides you on crisp autumn days when frost is on the fields and winter's drawing near. His head is within our hand in his old way."

Matthew 10:29 The Message (MSG)
29-31"What's the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don't be intimidated by all this bully talk. You're worth more than a million canaries.
